Did no one respond to my earlier message about not being able to talk
to the iBook internal modem because (a) no one has any ideas, or (b)
I offended and alienated everyone?

In any event, PLEASE help me out. I'm pretty dead in the water without
a modem. At this point I'd be happy just to know if it's even POSSIBLE
to get it working, or whether I just wasted a whole bunch of time and
money.

Please. I'm beggin' here.
