Xlib error

I have just started getting an odd error. When I start up emacs, the
follow warning pops up.

Warning: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C
Warning: X locale modifiers not supported, using default

I'm not even sure what it means. Has anyone ever seen this before? Any
ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I am running YDL on a '98 Powerbook 260. I am using afterstep for a
window manager (though I tried under kde and got the same error), and I'm
running the standard XFree that came with the distro (3.3.something or
other).
