Reality:

They didn't have security mechanisms up to snuff, and most exploits
leave you in a root shell.

With no root shell, you can't use an exploit that dumps you in a root shell.

I bet that's the REAL reason. Rather than fix some security problem
they know about with the OS, they just take away shell.

btw- did you know that with windows 2000, if the screen is locked but
a scanner is attached, pressing the button on the scanner will bring
up the scanner software W/O needing password? Real shitty OS security
design, and I bet its something like that that Apple is dealing with.

Rather than fix the problem, they take away the shell.
