Installation Problem - Manual Goof?

Greetings.

I am installing YDL on to a G4 Mac tower with 128MB Ram, and about a 9.6GB
hard drive. The manual bites, big-time, especially on G4/OS-9 partitioning.
The ATAPI drive ships with all of the memory allocated to the HFS partition
(beyond the small starting items), not to the free space area as identified
in the manual. The manual tells me I can't get rid of the HFS partition,
but I'm not getting a clear picture of how I move space out of the allocated
area into a free area, or into a new partition.

Any thoughts from the core wireheads who LIKE doing this stuff?

Sincerely,
