That'd be "info <whatever>" instead of "man <whatever>.

To straighten out your ftp question, however, you'll want to set a
default root
in the /etc/proftd.conf file.

I've got a "trusted" group set up on my server. Group members have full
access
to the server; everybody else is limited to a particular directory. Here's
the line from proftpd.conf that makes the magic happen:

DefaultRoot /usr/local/apache/html !trusted

Documentation on proftpd is at: http://www.proftpd.org/

Hope that helps.
