I think it is very possible. Have you tried the YDL boot floppy?

AFAIK, Debian 2.2r is not yet well support PowerPC CHRP.
Its rescue.bin seems not worked. Has anyone tried it out?
Its kernel
(http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/potato//main/disks-powerpc/current/chrp/linux)
works, but can not drive floppy :(
(Though this is mentioned in
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/powerpc/install.en.txt)
i.e. it can not load needed drivers from another floppy.
If the kernel can not drive SCSI and NIC, we can not go any further.
