Just installed YDL 1.2. Whoever tweaked those install screens deserves a day
off and a six-pack of their favorite beverage, lol. Only one gotcha, and the
answer was in the list archives. This was especially nice after fighting
LinuxPPC for a week, and no help from their list.

Anyway, unable to startx. It runs thru screenloads of

(--) FBDev: Mode <it lists the mode here> needs vert fresh rate of <it lists
a refesh rate here>. Deleted

Finishing with

(**) FontPath set to "unix/:-1"
(**) FBDev: Using XF86Config video mode database

Fatal server error:
No valid modes found.

I found one (3) message thread (from late 1999) on this that suggested
changing the Virtual entry in XF86Config to "defaults", but that didn't
help. There was also a reference to Neil Jolly's "X for the Linux on the
Power PC", but that wasn't helpful either. It did mention trying Xpmac if
XFree86 didn't work, but there's only one HTTP link to get it (from SuSE),
which doesn't help since I can't get Netscrape running since X isn't
running.

I also found a couple threads (early 2000) about a newer Xpmac, and there
was one regarding a newer XFree86 that's supposed to replace the existing
Xpmac.

So, can anyone offer this newbie some help?
Should I be using XFree86 or Xpmac?
If so, what version, where is it (by ftp), and how-to install would be
appreciated.

Extra info that may or may not be relevant:
PPC 9500 w/ PowerLogix G3 card
128 MB ram
Mac OS 8.6
(2) 2 GB SCSI hard drives: sda (HFS)->MacOS, sdb (/ and swap)->YDL
ATI Rage Orion 128 w/ 16 MB ram
Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display
BootX v1.2.2 w/ No Video Display unchecked and no extra kernal parameters

Please reply to my email as well as the list. Thank you.
