Can't get sound to work

Can someone help? I have a Beige G3/300 with an Apple A/V Personality
card. When I install Linux it says that sound capability is detected and
configured. However, when I'm in Linux, everytime there's supposed to be
a sound I get an AWACS error. Could the card be interfering with the
sound and is there a way around it shord of ripping the card out?
