You may find it useful to look at Install-sendmail from here:
http://members.nbci.com/xeer/index.html
It's a script that prompts you for a few settings and then creates an
appropriate set of sendmail configuration files. It won't cover every
eventuality but it does help remove the "explosion in a punctuation factory"
problem of sendmail.cf
