Maybe the Tasty Morsels kernel doesn't have Voodoo support - it is enabled
during kernel build under Console drivers -> Frame buffer support -> 3dfx
Banshee/Voodoo3 display support.

If you start with the "No video drivers" option is it possible to start X?
Driver selection under X is different to that used to boot the kernel.
