I had the same problem he had trying to get a 3com card to be recognized - I
donšt think the default install will see any other then apple's on the MB
Ethernet - didnšt in my case anyway.

So, I followed this advice from a kind sole:

Once I did this, any of 5 different NICS, including an assante worked just
find, SMC as well.

But the 3com, man what a nice card.

It was this simple feat that convinced me as to Linux's superiority over
another *nix or two I had been using.
