OK, the bmac thing makes sence, looking at the system messages. My problem then
is a different one. I have managed to get networking to work on my housemates
Debian box at her work without any problems. But connection between the two
boxes at home is not possible (here is an example):

[root@sunya /root]# ifconfig eth0 192.168.236.151 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
[root@sunya /root]# route add -net 192.168.236.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 eth0
[root@sunya /root]# ping 192.168.236.150
PING 192.168.236.150 (192.168.236.150) from 192.168.236.151 : 56(84) bytes of
data.
From 192.168.236.151: Destination Host Unreachable
...

This is the situation when her box is running Debian or Windows. Any ideas? Am I
just missing something really obvious?

thanks
Dan Kortschak
