Have the same exact setup Grey G4 with Adaptec2906.
Did the install from YDL-cdrom onto my second harddrive.
/dev/hdb.
Kernel complains att boot time
about timeouts related to the AIC7xxx-driver
My internal scsi-zip and old external scsi-drives still work though.

Booted the computer from the YDL install-cd
during instalation.
No tricks or special configs nessecery.
