Well, I plowed ahead anyway.

I assume that I have to have /etc/X11/X -> /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 ?

With or without running Xautoconfig, I'm getting fatal server error,
caught signal 11.

This is on a 6500 with dual ATI video. I haven't tried the
development ati driver yet. Is it mandatory?

OTOH, it's been such a long time since I fiddled with X, I may be
overlooking the obvious...
