Does the mouse work OK immediately after rebooting, but freaks out after
being put to sleep and woken up again? If so, there is a pmud bug where
the trackpad doesn't get reset correctly. I was having this problem before
...

After updating to that patched version of pmud, did you stop and re-start
pmud?

If the mouse is jittery -all- the time perhaps you simply need to adjust
the mouse settings? KDE and Gnome both have control panel settings for
this.
