Hi
After successful standard YDL 2.1 install from CD on a stock
500 Mhz G3 iBook-2:
/dev/hdb is a Toshiba dvd-rom SD-R002, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM
/dev/cdrom is a sym link to /dev/hdb
/var/log/dmesg shows that Tumbler sound h/w is detected
at boot time.
/proc/sys/dev/cdrom/check_media contains 0
Data CDs operate as expected:
mount /mnt/cdrom successfully mounts.
Using data on CDs is ok.
/dev/hdb is mode 600 and owned by uid of logged-in-user
and gid of "disk".
/dev/{mixer,mixer1,audio,audio1,audioctrl} are mode 600
and owned by uid of logged-in-user and gid of "sys".
echo "\007" sounds a loud bell as expected.
/sbin/lsmod shows following modules are loaded:
ipchains
i2c_keywest
dmasound_pmac
i2c_core
dmasound_core
soundcore
But xplaycd appears to have trouble with music CDs:
Volume set to max.
Detects music CDs ok & shows correct # of tracks.
After pressing play button:
Track counter increments as expected for each track.
Track number increments as each track is finished.
Problem: But no sound can be heard.
xmixer shows volume control at max loudness, and experiments
pressing the two speaker buttons makes no difference in the
no sound condition.
Although function keys F1 & F2 control screen brightness ok,
keys F3, F4, F5 have no effect on sound.
"xplaycd -nomixer" doesn't help.
Expected sound is generated under MacOS X when playing
music CDs with iTunes.
Everything seems to be working well on this iBook-2 under YDL 2.1,
except no sound is generated when playing music CDs with xplaycd.
http://www.yellowdoglinux.com/products/ydl2.1.shtml indicates that YDL
2.1 supports sound for iBook 2. I assume this includes playing music
CDs via xplaycd. What needs to be done to allow sound to work with
xplaycd under YDL 2.1 on an iBook-2?
Thanks,
Bill McKie
