This is because recent Macs do not have an audio cable connecting the
CD-ROM to the sound card, as "normal" computers do. Playing CDs on these
machines is digital only. I would expect xplaycd not to know anything
about this, but there *is* a plugin for xmms that will read the CD
digitally. The forget what it is called right now, but it comes with YDL,
so just look at the xmms* packages, maybe.

iTunes uses digital extraction.
