Maybe it's just an alternate syntax from yours but I have used boot
hd:10,\\yaboot with good results.
I've used this quite a bit since I decided to reinstall MacOS 10 and
9.2.2 in different configurations.
P.S. I've never been able to boot YDL using the 'option' key. I just
get a blank screen
