Hrm, well I for one don't share your experience there. I haven't tried
LinuxPPC, but since there hasn't been any real development on it in
months, I would suspect that it is likely to be out of date.

When we told our Apple rep that we were going to use Linux instead of OS
X, he told us that YellowDog was definitely the distro to choose (this was
back when their release was Champion Server 1.2). I have been using YDL
ever since and have never regretted it. We now have 6 YDL machines in
production and we are about to add 2 more and a 4 node briQ. I would
wholeheartedly recommend YDL to anyone who asked.

The differences in your experience and mine might be in the fact that
you're using older hardware (an 8500 I believe) whereas I'm only using
G4s. The oldest PPC machine I've installed Linux on is my Wallstreet, and
everything went smoothly there. So maybe YDL isn't so hot on older gear?
Is LinuxPPC really any better? I'm curious.

Cheers,

Chris
