Hi and thanks in advance for your time,

I am about to install YD Linux for the first time and have a question
re:
configuration, before I install. I have been monitoring this list for
some
time now, and have not seen a Q that is similar. I have the new "Getting

started with YDL" book and have not seen exactly this situation there,
but close. I would like to avoid unnecessary problems, prior to
installation
of YDL, if my situation would play a part in contributing to them, by
altering the configuration, if necessary to insure a successful install.

Below is a rundown of my system and drives, and their particulars.
After that is my specific Question.

---SYSTEM CONFIGURATION---

==B+W G3-300
==System: Mac OS 8.6
==704 MB Ram
==Virtual memory: off

==+CD Drive ATA 0 ID =0
==+ Iomega Zip ATA0 ID=1

===+= 6 Gig Quantum HD - Internal ATA1 ID=0 (to motherboard)
              Partitions: 1 - Format HFS
              Name: YDL
              Jumpered: Default (Master) Intended for YDL Installation

===+= 40 Gig Quantum HD - SCSI Bus1 ID=0
              Partitions: 2 - Format HFS+
              Jumpered: Cable Select
======+=Partition 1
                   Name: Darwin-finity- Currently used for Primary Mac
OS 8.6
======+=Partition 2
                   Name: Darwin-bkup- Intended for FUTURE MAC OS 9 - OS
X install/ Backup/ storage

===+= 20 Gig Quantum HD - SCSI Bus1 ID=1
              Partitions: 1 - Format HFS+
              Name: andbeond
              Jumpered: Default (Master) Currently used for Applications

===+= 30 Gig Quantum HD - SCSI Bus1 ID=2
              Partitions: 1 - Format HFS+
              Name: quantum
              Jumpered: Default (Master) Currently used for Scratch
Disk/ Storage

---QUESTION---

In the book "Getting started with YDL", in addressing YDL installation
on a separate HD it is suggested that Mac OS is to be the Master Drive
and the YDL HD is to be the Slave Drive. (I assume this to be for a
machine
with only two drives, on one cable).

In my machine, as referenced above, I can assign YDL to it's own drive
connected directly to the motherboard, stand-alone. Is this possible and
"easy"?
It would be more convenient for my purposes if it is so.

If this is possible, are there any special considerations or commands?

Or, should I switch drives around in order to make the Master/ Slave
or Cable select hierarchy?

Thanks again for your consideration and help.

Regards

C.L.
