RE: XFree stuck in 8bit color, about to kill myselfDon't kill yourself.
But if you do, do what my dad used to tell me when I used to
say that:
Do it outside, and point away from the house.
No mess.

from the command prompt type
X -bpp 16
Don't forget, you'll have some tweaking to do in the XF86Config file.
(Before you do anything, go into X, open a term, and type X -help. Read everything and you should be good)

Subject: XFree stuck in 8bit color, about to kill myself
Greetings Everyone,
I have XFree86 4.02 installed (we'll get to that in a moment) here on my
dual 500 G4, and it's stuck in 8bit color, and it's horrendous.
In the XFConfig86 file, if I change the 8 to a 16 in the monitor section
towards the end of the doc, X won't boot. It'll throw me back into console,
with no GUI.
As installed with YDL, XF 3.x was installed, and that was also in 8bit
color. I downloaded all of the XF4 source, compiled it, maked it, maked
installed it, etc. So, I think I have all of that installed.
Now, I --need-- to get out of 8bit color! And yes Virginia, I am a newbie.
Thanks,
Adam Attarian
