-hey james. YDL can read HFS+ disks but not write to them. Keep in mind
that you can run MOL, http://maconlinux.com/ .

Also, if you really want to have hfs you can, as Nathan pointed out,
repartition (destructive low-level format, you would want to back-up
data) using apples drive set-up utility, you could make 1or 2 GB HFS
partitions (from your HFS+ partitions) (bigger then that is too much of
a waste)
