There are some methods to kill the offending applications, but if you
are working in KDE, you can press the keys Ctrl-Alt-Esc. Then the
cursor will change to a skull. Move the cursor over ofending application
window, and click. KDE will take care of the rest.

Occasionally applications in KDE (or any other desktop
environment) will freeze. Is there any way to force
an individual application that has frozen to quit? Is
this achieved, (if it is possible), through the
console environment? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.
