Sorry, but MacOS crashing every 2 weeks? Maybe not hardware, but something
isn't right.

Just my two-cents.

I'm testing the Kernels in 2 machines, a Lombard Powerbook and a Tower G3
and this machins ran fairly wel LinucPPC 2000 Q4 (never crashed in 2 years).
Is not a Hardware problem. I quoted MacOS as unstable as usual that is 1
crash every 2 weeks or so. And btw, this Kernel are way more unstable :(.

And btw, 2.4.18-rc1 is stable for now in same machine (powerbok), but lacks
sound and hfs support.

May be i get the 2.4.17 bk as joe suggest.

Thanks to all.

What types of problems are you having? What type of machine are you using?
Info like this makes it much easier to solves these problems. You say MacOS
is already unstable and linux is too. Have you considered a hardware
problem?
Are you getting kernel panics? This usually points to some hardware
incompatibility or failure.

I'm using a bk stable 2.4.17 kernel on my TI PowerBook. I used the generic
one already compiled from http://www.ppckernel.org
. You can find it in their archives. It supports sound but doesn't seem to
support the pcmcia card, sleep or modem on my TI PowerBook. If you can live
with this it was very easy to install and get me running where I can now
work on tweaking the modules.

They also have several "special" kernels for specific machines there.
