Typically you will have problems in IE when you disable JavaScript in
preferences.
In IE5.1 you find relevant settings at: Preferences: Web Content: Active
Content (other versions are similar or identical).
You must be sure Enable Scripting is checked.
Again, sometimes people confuse JavaScript with Java, and try to fix it by
going to Preferences: Java, or occasionally via Preferences: Security
Zones: Settings: Active X Controls and Plug-ins: Initialize and script
AcitveX controls (which won't enable javascript, just ActiveX scripts).
