Subject: simple (I think) ethernet issue

I've got a YDL machine (2000 model single processor G4) running as a
server. I got a new Netgear FS108 10/100 ethernet switch to replace
the Asante hub I've been using, all connected to the internet via a
cable modem. I thought it would be a simple matter to switch the
cables from the old hub to the new switch, but when I switched the
cables the web server stopped seeing requests and this message came
up on the terminal:
mii_interrupt, phy_status: 8006
There were several more lines of this type of thing. A telnet session
was able to carry on unimpeded, but the web server doesn't see
requests.
Do I need to reboot or do something else to get the machine to work
with this switch?
