I got the 2.4.1 pre 10 kernel working on my 9600/200 this weekend. After
first finding that the kernel wouldn't drive the Ethernet ports properly (as
before, with 2.4.0) I did some digging. I was pretty convinced my ignorance
was to blame but it appears only half true!

In comparison to kernel 2.2.18 (and earlier), kernel 2.4.0 and later loads
the internal ethernet driver after the pci bus driver (I have a "tulip"
ethernet card). The result is that eth0 becomes transposed with eth1 when
moving from 2.2.18 to 2.4.0. I had to swap all the routing information
around and then it worked. Very annoying!

I found that the rpc.lockd daemon no longer starts from the command line or
during startup under 2.4.0. All seems well though.
