2.1 Modem Configuration

Now that I have 2.1 booting, I'm trying to configure PPP. (Quick note: the
X configuration works perfectly out of the box -- first distro to manage
that!)

If I use PPP Configure under KDE, the computer hangs while trying to
configure the modem. I can't get a virtual terminal, so I have to do a hard
reboot.

What do I need to do to configure the modem by hand?
