I doubt i'll get around to fixing this as its really a problem in the YDL
installer.

you need to run the installer again and before selecting packages. hit
<ctrl> <alt> F1 - F6 to switch to a different screen. one of these screens
should be logged in as root( # prompt) you can mount the partition that
contains the /etc directory from your install and manually copy an fstab
file. since you booted off the cd the partition isn't read-only. you can
use a copy of the fstab at:
ftp://ftp.emji.net/pub/ans/README.html

something like:
/dev/sda2 /boot ext2 defaults 1 0
/dev/sda4 / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/sda3 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy ext2 noauto 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0

follow the instructions on that page and booting from the internal drive
will work.
