Ed, this is a shot in the dark from another newbie, but is the UltraStar on
a third-party SCSI card? Could the lack of a driver for the SCSI card
account for your problems?

How do you have BootX configured? Are you sure it points at the correct
disk? I believe you need a kernel argument along the lines of "boot=sdb7" or
whatever the correct device and partition is. I can check in my settings to
get the exact syntax, and will let you know what I find (I'm not near the
machine now.)

Basically BootX will try to boot off the same disk as it's on, unless you
tell it otherwise.
