yup and dependencies

Somehow between manual use of gnorpm and yup, I'm now getting an
error whenever I use
yup:

% sudo /usr/sbin/yup update
Reading RPM database... (100%)
Performing dependencies sanity check...

Error: Dependency
%

I must confess that the error message is a bit cryptic, and I don't know how to
repair the problem. Is there a way to rebuild the yup/rpm database
and/or identify
what packages are missing?
