Just to throw my data in the mix, here's what worked for me...I don't know
if this will be helpful...

7200/90, 56 MB RAM, Gateway monitor (capable of 800X600?)

kernel argument is simply "video=platinumfb"

seems to boot into 640x480 by default, not sure what color depth.
