The Machine I am trying this on is a IBM 7043-150.
It has a PPC 604e Processor at 375MHz.
128MB Memory.
The IBM VGA adapter is a rebadged Matrox Mystique PCI card.

The kernel I am using is 2.2.17pre1

It is the only one I have been able to get to work. I got this of the
YDL 1.2 CD. There does not appear to be a zImage file with the
YDL 2.0 CD.

I have downloaded the 2.2.19 Linux kernel and tried compiling it
and create a zImage file. I can create the zImage but have not had
a successful boot yet. I get confused as to wether my machine is a
PREP machine or a CHRP machine. I thought that if the BIOS had
Open Firmware that it was a CHRP machine.

I have many other flavors of RS/6000 machines at my disposal.
I managed to get YDL 1.2 going ok on my 7043-140 as well.

I will try compiling more zImages tonight and see how I go.
