I have an iBook 2001 as well.
If I run minicom on /dev/ttyS0 I can get responses from the modem. AT
commands return OK.
ATDTxxxxxxx goes off hook, returns a line of garbage, and then says "NO
DIALTONE".
If I run wvdialconf, it says:
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- nothing.
ttyS1<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- nothing.
and then scans a bazillion ports ...
If I try to "setserial /dev/ttyS0 spd_vhi" I get dropped into the monitor.
This happens with the YDL 2.4.4 kernel as well as with a 2.4.7-pre6 kernel
I compiled from the benh sources.
I switched from the YDL 2.2 kernel because I could not wake up from sleep
with it. The YDL 2.4.4 kernel fixed that, but detected the console at
640x480 instead of 1024x768. The benh 2.4.7 kernel fixes both of these
things.
I haven't tried any of this with the YDL 2.2 kernel.
I have compiled macserial as a module, so I don't get messages during
bootup. But when I insmod it, I get this:
PowerMac Z8530 serial driver version 2.0
tty00 at 0xd5910020 (irq = 22) is a Z8530 ESCC (cobalt modem)
tty01 at 0xd5917000 (irq = 23) is a Z8530 ESCC
Has anybody with an iBook 2001 gotten it to work -successfully- ? It
doesn't seem to matter much if I can get wvdial to recognize it or not if
I get garbage when I try to dial with minicom.
