I can report that my SMC (rtl8139) was working under OS9 but was a pain in
the... to make it work under Linux. I got a 3Com 3c905 that works wonder
under Linux, but haven't try to make it work under OS9 since this box is now
used under Linux only.
I realize this is only 50% of your problem resolved.
