The installation is just fine. What is probably wrong is your monitor
selection (in Xconfigurator). Try different monitors from the selection, or
try entering the monitor specs manually. Read about it in XFree86
documentation ('man Xconfigurator' for start). Setting up the monitor can be
a breeze or hell, depending upon a star you were born under :))
