Don,

proftpd has been claimed more secure in the past although a recent chain
of vulnerabilities (recent as in within the last 6 months) has questioned
this. We personally find the configuration of proftpd much cooler/easiser.
It is very Apache-like and powerful. That is about the extend of the
reasoning. The previously mentioned security problems in proftpd seem
to have all been fixed and the current version seems decent.
