Subject: configuring keyboard

I've had some problems coniguring the keyboard. I have a extended spanish
keyboard, on the mac side I use the Spanish-ISO keyboard layout, so i
thought it would be the same for linux. The keyboard works fine when i
start in runlevel 3, but in X, the keyboard acts like a US one. I
actually don't care about it a lot, but i'm a perl programmer, and i
really need to put the "~" character. In the mac side i do that by
pressing alt-ñ (on the spanish keyboard). I don't know how can i do it
with an US keyboard.
Any idea how can i fix that?
