This has given me some problems for awhile now. I have a legacy G3/233 tower
running Champion Server 1.2. I've tried to configure the modem through the
GUI only to have the machine lock up completely when it got to checking the
modem speed. From the shell, this is the response I receive when I type..
# wvdialconf wvdial.conf
Scanning serial ports for a modem

ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 Z -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 S11=55 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 S11=55 + FCLASS1=0 -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: Modem Identifier: ATI -- Apple GV/56K
ttyS0<*1>: Speed 2400: AT -- OK
ttyS0<*1>: Speed 4800: AT -- Speed 4800: AT --Speed 4800: AT -- Max speed is
2400; using 1200 to be safe.
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 S11=55 + FCLASS=0 -- nothing
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- nothing
Port Scan <*1>:S2 S3

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program? Did you
configure it properly in setserial?

...etc. If rerun immediately(#wvdialconf wvdial.conf) then the response is
simply:

Scanning serial ports for a modem

ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 S11=55 + FCLASS=0 -- nothing
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- nothing

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program? Did you

When I type...
#setserial /dev/ttys0

I get...
/dev/ttyS0; UART: unknown, Port: 0xf3013020, IRQ: 15

Can someone please help me out? The modem works fine in Mac OS 9 and has
since 8.1. I'm a bit of a newbie to Linux but I'm learning more as I go. I
would really like to get online with Linux and can't get past this block.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
