Here is what I did (w/ YDL 1.2.1)

1. Make sure AppleTalk is compiled into the kernel or is at least a
module linked at bootup. To find out whether or not AppleTalk is
loaded, check the /var/log/messages file and look for A line that says
something about "AppleTalk ... Linux ... NET 4.0".

2. If not, you'll need to add the following line to /etc/conf.modules

alias net-pf-5 appletalk

then reboot the iBook.

3. If it is installed, go into the Mac's AppleTalk control panel, turn
AppleTalk off then on again. This should jump start the Mac's probing
function. Go into the chooser, select AppleShare, wait a few seconds
and you should have it. The name of tthe server will either be the
hostname of the machine or it will be "My iBook" (can't be certain).
