Hi,

After reading quiet a lot about Linux networking, I am still not able to run my Linux box on my network.

Network: 1 "PC" running Miramar PC Maclan + 4 PPC.
Switch: Linksys
Linux box: PPC 9600/350 with SMC 1211tx (10/100) (eth1), + original onboard NIC (10Mb) (eth0).

Mac addresses are all: "169.254.xxx.xxx" and the Name server is at: 239.255.255.251 (information obtained from the TCP/IP window on Macs)

I have tried running netconfig, numerous times; Under DHCP, error: "a dhcp server did not respond, TCP/IP not configured", under Bootdp, same kind of error message. And, when trying to enter a static address, netmask and name server, get a "gtk Warning: gtk_signal_connect_full(): could not find signal "enter" in the 'GtkHBox' class ancestry.

If I run ifconfig after a reboot, it shows eth0 (MACE...), eth1 (SMC 1211...), and lo (127.0.0.1). If I try running "pump -i eth1" I get an "operation failed" and eth1 has then disappeared when running ifconfig again.

I added "alias eth1 rtl8139" in the modules.conf file, and rtl8139.o is showing in the "lib/modules/2.2.19.1i/net" directory.

What am I missing?

Tia,
Philippe.
