Subject: Getting farther; but still no cigar

Can anyone help with the following problem:
After getting a replacement install CD from Terra Soft, all went
well
until I was in the process of loading the kernel and the following
messages occurred.
Finding module dependencies
depmod: can't open /lib/modules/2.2.19-1i/modules. dep for
writing FAILED
Loading sound module (dmasound-pmac);
modprobe: can't open dependencies file
/lib/modules/2.2.19-1i/modules. dep for writing FAILED
I noticed that the system also could not find my video card, a Twin
Turbo 128, so I manually chose the appropriate driver from the list. I
moved the video card to another slot but no change (this didn't seem to
bother the Mac OS at all).
I wind up in command line mode - in the 2.2.19 kernel
I am running a Power Tower Pro and have installed YDL 2.0 on a
separate drive.
I'm new to Linux and would appreciate any help.
