OK. Actually I do intend to work with a lot of data, I'm working on
MP3izing/ripping my CD library so I can serve it from the linux box. Back
when the whole disk was one (from the factory) MacOS partition I had very
little space left because of this, so I know I'm gonna need it. I also have
a digital camera whose images I like to play with, on MacOS I used
PhotoShop, so I'm looking forward to seeing how The Gimp compares. ;-). I
figure the hard drive'll be my next upgrade. ;-)

It was that last assumption that I wasn't sure I was assuming.

Late last night I broke down and booted from the YDL CD again. Doing a
Custom install, when I got to the partitioning step I deleted the Linux
partitions I had already set up, and then I deleted the unnamed HFS
partition that I had set up for MacOS. There were about three other smallish
(KB, not MB) partitions at the front of the disk. Not knowing what they
were, I didn't touch 'em. I then made the standard 3 linux partitions (not
yet knowing how I want the machine finally set up, I didn't try to create
more partitions, I'll do that later ;-) ).

Expecting "the worst" (that there was something in the MacOS partition I
needed), I none-the-less proceeded to install the Developer's option. I've
rebooted (and power cycled) several times since and so far everything seems
to be OK.

Thanks!
