Before you start swapping cards, you might want to try Xconfigurator, if
you haven't already. You need to be running from a command line (ie, X not
running at all) and all you do is type "Xconfigurator" at the prompt. It's
pretty straight-forward from there -- you'll need to use the keyboard for
all of your inputs (tab key to move between buttons and such). You should
be able to use the custom settings to bring that monitor resolution to
where you like it.

Hopefully that will get you what you want faster than replacing your video
card.
