This is great advice. If you use an installation which has X windows (a
good choice for newbies!), you can use the Package Manager to take care of
these rpm tasks with a graphical interface. (Note: I'm assuming that KDE
is being used -- I haven't been using the YDL installation of Gnome, so I
don't know if there are significant differences.)

Look under the "System" for it, make sure that your YDL CD is mounted, and
under the Package Manager "settings" menu, change the "Location of
uninstalled packages" setting for RPMs to point at the directory Jim
mentions. A click on the refresh button and a few moments for the contents
to be read and you should be able to do all of the package
install/uninstall you want without too much hassle or needing to deal with
a command line.
