Press "control" "option" "+" or "-" where +/- are the ones on
keypad. It may be that you need to press "command" instead of
"option".

Also, xvidtune -prev or xvidetune -next does the same. See
"man xvidtune".

When you feel adventurous, try "pico /etc/X11/XF86Config". If you
see entries like

        Subsection "Display"
          Depth 8
          Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1152x870" "1024x768" "832x624"
          ViewPort 0 0
          Virtual 1600 1200
        EndSubsection

change the order of "1600x1200" "1280x1024" ... to start with the
mode you want. You may want to change "Virtual" entry too. See
"man XF86Config" for more info.

Xautoconfig is for someone who can't get X working at all, and,
in your case, it doesn't help much since X is up and running
already ;)
