I fixed my DHCP problem last night by going to dhcpcd, so I'm writing
this for the archive.

PROBLEM / SYMPTOMS:
Linux was recogizing my internal ethernet and obtaining an IP, DNS, etc
correctly (do pump -s to see all this info), but I could not ping
anywhere on the internet.

SOLUTION:
Install dhcpcd. Instructions for obtaining and installing are at:

Fixed the problem right away. I'm happy now. =P
