Dennis,
You're one step farther than me. When afpd starts I get an error that it
cant find file libnss_nis.so.2 I looked for the file but its not there.
Where can I get this file from? I assume it is a pointer to another file.
I seem to be running just about the same system as you YDL 1.2.1 kernel
2.2.17 on an 8500 mac and having the same problems. Hope you get things
worked out soon. I don't know about you but I'm getting pretty frustrated!

Barry

Adding these lines in /etc/conf.modules eliminates the error
messages in
/var/log/messages after booting. There is written instead:

        ...
        kernel: NET4: AppleTalk 0.18 for Linux NET4.0
        atalkd[546]: restart (1.4b2+asun2.1.3)
        atalkd[546]: zip_getnetinfo for eth0
        rc: Starting linuxconf succeeded
PAM_pwdb[568]: (login) sessoin opened for user root by LOGIN(uid=0)
        atalkd[546]: zip_getnetinfo for eth0
        atalkd[546]: zip_getnetinfo for eth0 // that's right, two
times!
        atalkd[546]: config for no router
        atalkd[546]: ready 0/0/0
        atalk: atalkd startup succeeded
        papd[604]: restart (1.4b2+asun2.1.3)
        atalk: papd startup succeeded
        atalk: afpd startup succeeded
        afpd[612]: linuxpc:AFPServer@* started on 65280.240:128
(1.4b2+asun2.1.3)
        afpd[612]: ASIP started on 192.168.1.27:548(1) (1.4b2+asun2.1.3)

Looks successful, doesn't it? Unfortunaltely, I cannot see any
server using
the MacOS chooser on my ethernet connected PowerBook. On the
PowerBook,
AppleTalk is started and when I connect the PowerBook to the linux
machine
booted in MacOS, file sharing works without problems.

/etc/atalk/AppleVolumes.default contains a - (tilde). Is there any
other
setup or connection tests I have to/can do?

        Thanks.

        Dennis
