Yeah, it's my turn in the barrel I guess.

I've redone the mrproper step every time.

From the list of requirements in 2.4.18 Documentation/CHANGES:
(listed req's)

# gcc --version
2.95.3 (2.95.3)
# make --version
GNU Make version 3.79.1 (3.77)
# ld -v
GNU ld version 2.10.91 with BFD 2.10.0.33 --(2.9.1.0.25)
# fdformat --version
fdformat from util-linux-2.11f (2.10o)
# insmod -V
insmod version 2.4.3 (2.4.2)
# tune2fs
tune2fs 1.26 (3-Feb-2002) (1.25)
# reiserfsck 2>&1|grep reiserfsprogs
reiserfsprogs 3.x.0j (3.x.0j)
# cardmgr -V
cardmgr version 3.1.22 (3.1.21)
# pppd --version
pppd version 2.4.0 (2.4.0)
# isdnctrl 2>&1|grep version
(not installed)
That last one is missing, but I have no use for ISDN (unfortunately). Aside from that, it's all good. Checked that before I started.

I hope you don't, but if you do, then it won't be just me. ;-)
