On my 6100, I can control where the sound comes from using aumix. It's a
text mode program; you might have to install it off the CD.
There are also XWindows mixers; you might have to try a few to find one
that offers the flexibility you need.
I was able to turn on/off the internal speaker and on/off on the line
out independently using aumix.
